Frequently Asked Questions

  • AUSWIF is an organisation dedicated to supporting and empowering women involved in the fishing industry in Australia. We aim to foster community connections, promote mental health and well-being through our Fishing for Therapy programs, and advocate for greater visibility and opportunities for women in the fishing sector.

  • The Fishing for Therapy program uses fishing as a therapeutic activity to help women reduce stress, build confidence, and improve mental well-being. It incorporates fishing skills, mental health support, cultural engagement (like Aboriginal art and yarning circles), and self-care techniques such as the use of the "Safety Stick" to de-escalate and reframe challenging situations. The program is open to women across Australia.

  • You can get involved with AUSWIF by registering interest to participate, or referring a friend to attend one of our events, volunteering, or supporting our programs through sponsorship and/or partnership. We welcome women who are new to fishing and those with experience, as well as those who want to mentor others. To stay informed sign up for updates on our Fishing for Therapy retreats or workshops happening across Australia.

  • AUSWIF offers a variety of support, including:

    - Mentorship and networking opportunities within the fishing industry.

    - Mental health and well-being programs like Fishing for Therapy.

    - Training programs focused on fishing skills and leadership development.

    - Cultural and educational workshops that help preserve and pass down fishing traditions and knowledge, especially in Aboriginal communities.

  • The Fishing for Therapy program is funded through a combination of government grants, private donations, and sponsorships. You can contribute by making a donation, becoming a program partner. All contributions help expand the program to reach more women communities in Australia.
