Australian Programs by Women for Women

In-Depth Overview of AUSWIF

Fishing for Therapy Programs

The Fishing for Therapy programs by Australian Women in Fishing (AUSWIF) provide women with access to life-changing mental health support without the financial burden through funding.

Programs are fully funded and tailored to the expressed requirements and locations of participants supported by government, business and philanthropic sources. AUSWIF is actively building collaborative funding options for national rollout of fishing for therapy programs

Where all women can participate and benefit from this unique opportunity for healing, empowerment, and community building.

At the heart of AUSWIF is our Listener Program, which provides on-site mental health support during our multi-day therapeutic retreats. Trained professionals offer counselling and emotional care, (Mental Health Professionals accredited in Mental Health First Aid) giving participants the opportunity to heal in a supportive, culturally relevant environment. These retreats allow women to connect with nature, as our programs emphasise the passing down of cultural knowledge from respected elders around the country

AUSWIF is committed to continuing to build  a even stronger network of women within the fishing community. Through mentorship opportunitiesnetworking events, and leadership workshops, we help women develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the fishing industry. We will continue to foster collaborations with some of the countries best Female Anglers, as facilitators of our programs creating a new industry with new  pathways for women to take on leadership roles in a traditionally male-dominated field.

In addition to our focus on mental health and empowerment, AUSWIF is passionate about sustainability. Our educational workshops teach sustainable fishing practices that respect the environment, to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy Australia’s rich fishing heritage.

“Embrace the journey of fishing, knowing that every catch is a new story waiting to unfold. Let your experiences shape your path and the community around you. Be present in the moment, for it is where true connection thrives.”

Program Offerings

Fishing for Therapy Retreats

Our Fishing for Therapy Retreats focus on using fishing as a therapeutic tool to promote relaxation, mindfulness, and emotional healing. In our retreats women participate in hands-on fishing activities, with the fishing rod serving as a "safety stick" to help manage emotions and provide mental clarity. Set in peaceful natural locations, Fishing for Therapy retreats combine skill-building, community and mental health support, empowering women to find healing through the calming rhythm of fishing while forming connections with others in a supportive environment.
